No Naff: Max Pearmain on Timberland

We’ve invited some of the most influential stylists, menswear designers and editors to share their thoughts about our brand here on the Bootmakers Blog.  Below, editor / stylist Max Pearmain tells us why he’s a fan.

I’m a big fan of Timberland because the brand has a core product that has a genuine street-led respect and foundation. The original designs are inspiring and actually quite aspirational in an alternative un-orthadox sense; i.e. they have a luxury streetwear element to them without feeling naff or too elitist.

Max Pearmain is the Menswear Editor of POP and is the Editor and Creative Director of Arena Homme +. He has worked with London designers including Martine Rose and Christopher Raeburn, and is a well-respected menswear stylist in his own right.

Classic Boot, Feminine Style: The ‘Nadège Winter x Timberland’ Collection

“Fresh and girly” are probably not be the first words that come to mind when you think of Timberland’s classic 6-inch boot, but Parisian style icon Nadège Winter might just change that.  She’s been working in collaboration with our Timberland team in Europe and UK-based charity TRAID to design a cute, contemporary version that combines classic boot heritage with colorful, feminine style.

The limited edition ‘Nadège Winter x Timberland’ collection is available in selected stores across the UK, France, Italy and Benelux.

Don’t Hate the Player, Love His Style

It’s the Diamonds against the Camos in an extreme (and extremely stylish) game of capture the flag, featuring the Men’s Fall / Winter 2012 collections for Opening Ceremony and OC & Timberland.  If only all outdoor sports were this much fun to watch:

Mark McNairy x Timberland = Classic Style, Redefined

When asked about style, fashion designer Mark McNairy says, “Either you got it or you don’t.”  It doesn’t get much more simple than that.

Whether you’re a style “have” or “have-not,” there’s something for you in the new McNairy x Timberland Collection, featuring 2 interpretations of our classic 6-inch boot and a camouflage field boot.  (If you’re not naturally stylish, take our word for it – you want these in your closet.)

Here’s McNairy himself to share his thoughts about the collaboration, his personal style, and how the two come together in this Timberland collection:

Behind the Scenes with Abington

This is what happens when you let a group of the most influential artists in New York City loose with nothing but a box of shoes and a camera:

When it came time to create the imagery to present our Fall 2012 Abington Collection, we knew we needed a crew with expertise, style, creativity and passion — and we found it in 13th Witness, Zack McTee, Josh Madden, EIKNARF and Cody B. Ware.

You can see the end result of their collaborative effort in our Abington Fall 2012 catalog.  And for more behind-the-scenes action, stay tuned – we’ve got a series of videos featuring 13th Witness, EIKNARF and Josh Madden that we’ll be rolling out over the next few weeks.

Classic Meets Contemporary: The “Nadège Winter for Timberland” Collection

Parisian style icon Nadège Winter likes nothing more than to mix fashion, design and urban eco-awareness. You can imagine our delight when she approached our Timberland Europe team with her idea for “reinterpreting” our iconic classic yellow boot for women!

We connected Nadège, a freelance artistic director and communication consultant, with our long-time partner TRAID, a UK-based nonprofit that recycles, customizes and sells second-hand clothes to fund overseas development projects.  Together, they set out to create a collection of footwear that was both fashion-forward and environmentally-aware.

After rummaging through the stock in TRAID’s London warehouse in search of fabrics, Nadège opted for statement Liberty, bandana and floral motifs for her designs:

The end result is a series of uniquely beautiful boots that have kept all of their classic charm — honey nubuck skin, golden eyelets and original laces – but with fresh, stylish, light-hearted print detail.

Starting this month, the limited edition (1600 pairs) “Nadège Winter for Timberland” collection will be available exclusively at prominent outlets and Timberland® stores across Europe.

Shaun Samson Designs Timberland Boots for London Fashion Week

This season, California-born and British-trained designer Shaun Samson has partnered with Timberland to design the footwear for his London Fashion Week MAN Day show. Using our Design Your Own Boot function, the breakthrough menswear designer created three unique styles which mirror the themes of his 2012 collection.

Shaun Samson

Samson picked from hundreds of leather bases, laces, rivets and soles available on our website to adapt the classic boot to sit alongside his collection.

Shaun’s personally-designed Timberland boots

The ease and gratification of the Timberland Design Your Own function meant the design process was effortless. The design possibilities are endless: you choose your own colours, hardware, fabrications and can even take the customisation further with your own embroidered initials.

Earthkeepers in San Francisco

Hot on the heels of our Earthkeepers experience in New York City, our Timberland Earthkeepers team was last spotted in San Francisco’s Union Square.  Booth visitors got to see our Earthkeepers Fall 2011 collection and learn about our eco-friendly initiatives, our pedi-cabs offered zero-emission rides in town, and we even rewarded unsuspecting San Franciscans for their random acts of Earthkeeping.

It’s all part of our appreciation for living an eco-friendly lifestyle.  Check it out:

The Earthkeepers Pop-Up Booth

Showcasing our environmental values - from product design and labeling to our global reforestation efforts

Made with reclaimed and recycled materials, the booth showcases the latest eco-minded, stylish footwear from our Fall 2011 Collection, and also educates and inspires consumers to be Earthkeepers

Consumers can plant a tree via the "Plant a Tree” application on our Facebook page. For every virtual tree planted, we'll plant a real one.

Timberland pedi-cab ride, anyone?

If you missed the Earthkeepers booth, don’t worry – you can still check out the Earthkeepers collection or learn about our tree-planting commitment on our website.

Earthkeepers in NYC

Two weeks ago, we set up shop in the middle of New York City to showcase all things Earthkeepers – including educating consumers about our green initiatives, sharing our Fall 2011 Earthkeepers product collection, and even rewarding random acts of Earthkeeper kindness.  Check it out:

Our Earthkeeper booth was made with 450 pounds of recycled plastic bottles.

Inside the booth, Earthkeeper products (made with recycled and renewable materials) are on display.

Our Timberland street team, looking for eco-conscious people to reward.

Be a hero. Plant a tree: When you plant one virtual tree in our Facebook Tree Planting app, we plant a real one!

You can see more of our Earthkeeper experience in New York City on Timberland’s YouTube channel.  Next up, our Earthkeeper booth and street teams are headed to the West Coast – stay tuned for more photos and footage from San Francisco.

And as a reminder, tomorrow is your LAST CHANCE to vote and submit pics of your mountain chic style for our Girlfriend Getaway Sweepstakes. Be sure to share your photo with your friends, family and social communities to rack up the most votes — the top ten submissions receive a pair of Timberland boots and have a shot at winning the ultimate getaway to the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
